So yesterday Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan, welcomed their second child, a daughter. Robert took to Facebook yesterday afternoon to confirm the great news as only he could and to share his baby girl’s name.
Robert wrote on Facebook:
After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project.
Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, “Dad! You are embarrassing me…I’m 30, this has gotta stop.”
Yep…Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th…she’s 7lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan’s traits that have seemingly overwritten my “junk DNA.”

LOVE this birth announcement! People even has the scoop on the name “Avri Roel.” Avri (which is pronounced Ay-Vree: like “Ivory,” I’m guessing) is just a name the parents apparently liked. Avri’s middle name, Roel, is a family name. Kinda.
The first two letters, “Ro,” pay homage to RDJ’s father, Robert Downey Sr, and his wife, Rosemary, as well as Susan’s mother, who’s named Rosie. The last two letters (“el”) are for RDJ’s mother, Elsie, and Susan’s father, Eliot. Now that is an interesting way to recognize family members while still giving the baby a unique name!
